.caf support or conversion?

Postby uberkirby » Sat Jul 26, 2008 7:17 pm

I have access to a mac (but prefer using a PC in the household), with garageband. I recently tried to move the appleloops folder from the mac to the PC, only to find that they're in .caf format, which mixcraft (and apparently everything except quicktime) does not support.

Does anyone know of a way of converting these files from .caf to .wav or .aiff or anything, really. My mac's on its last legs and I'd like to have the loops usable on the PC in case anything happens.

I know quicktime pro is capable of exporting the .caf files as .wav, but only one at a time. I have hundreds and hundreds of the files, so that'd take weeks...

Googled 'convert caf file batch' and found these...

Freeware for Mac OS X 10.4 - don't know if it does batch processing:

For WinXP - $24.95 - does batches - don't know how full function the demo is:

You are a life saver. That second program you listed did the trick. I'm not sure how I missed that program in all of my googling...

Ah, also, the main limitation of the demo is that it only converts the first three minutes of the files... no problem for the loops.

Thanks again, you saved me weeks of drudgery.

when I go to add .caf files in "protected music converter" it wont let me - I select one in the "add files" pane and click open, then the pane closes and nothing happens... halp!
