Good evening.
I noticed that the most recent update to Acoustica provides a template for this paper type.
However, when I tried adding my images to the template, it seems that the template proportions are wrong.
Specifically, it seems like the on-screen template is just the standard template with a wider spine, but keeping the original standard template total dimensions. If that makes sense.
Basically, I can if match the image height correctly with the template, then the image is too wide for the template, and thus, gets cut off.
So...
Does anyone use these inserts?
I'm in DESPERATE need of a working template for these inserts, as quickly as possible...
I suppose I could always buy USDM's labelling software, but I absolutely loathe having to use a different piece of software for each individual piece of paper, you know? |

Hi,
If the image were wider, would it still fit the case? Isn't the front of the case the same width as a standard DVD case?

I didn't think I explained it that well. lol My apologies.
Yes, the front and back of the case is the same size as a standard DVD case, but the spine is roughly twice the width of a standard case, thus increasing the overall length of the insert.
What it appears to be to me, is that the overall paper/insert length was not increased...
A specific example...
I have the images for my DVD inserts split into 3 parts, front, back, spine.
(Mostly because I was using Mediaface for past projects, but needed something new for this particular insert.)
NEATO Template Test
As you can see here, using a standard case template, the image fits just perfectly.
USDM Template Test
...But here, the template is mis-proportioned. It's still using the same paper size as a standard dvd case, when it needs to be about half and inch wider/longer, to compensate for the wider spine.
Does that make more sense now? |

I kept playing around with it and learned a few more things...
Turns out that it's not *completely* broken after all, but it does have some issues that I think should be addressed...
Starting off, I resized my images so they lined up with the top and bottom of the on-screen template, similar to the images above. However, instead of basing my image layout on alignment with the top-left corner of the template, I focused on the center of the page and worked from there.
Naturally, this meant that the far left and far right edges of my cover were shown as being cropped on-screen. Likewise, when the print preview appeared (below), it showed what appeared the be the proper insert dimensions, with the cropped image centered on the page...
Print Preview
I printed a test page to confirm this.
While the printed version was indeed cropped on the left and right as it appeared on screen, I noticed two important things...
1) The cropped image started printing exactly where it should have on the page, as opposed to starting a little ways into the page, as the Preview implied....
2) Although it was NOT shown on the preview, a sizable chunk was cropped off of the bottom of the image. Say, 10mm worth? This in particular made me stop and think a little...
I tried putting together the cover insert again, but this time I started aligning everything normally from the top-left, and resized my images so that they fit width-wise on the on-screen template.
Of course, this left about 9 or 10mm worth of blank space on the bottom of the on-screen template.
The print preview still showed the template dimensions extending further than the image on the left and right, and of course now also showed the blank gap along the bottom of the image....
But this time it printed correctly!!!
(Not counting having to adjust the template UP about 8mm in the paper type properties.)
So.
The real problem then, is that the on-screen template is just a bit too tall for this paper type, hence, creating this whole misunderstanding. |

The problem should be fixed.
