Hi

I am trying to connect my Yamaha DGX620 to my PC (Vista HP Pavillion a6130 with realtek high definition sound card) with a USB cable as recommended by local yamaha dealer. Mixcraft shows Portable Grand 1 as additional MIDI device in preferencs. But when I play after through vacant channels of VI i dont see any output. I ensured VI is not muted and it is armed. I finally managed to transport the data through USB flash drive. However, the sound quality of the voices were changed. There is no other line out from the instrument only headphone outlet is there, which does not serve the purpose. Does it require a special USB cable? I dont know how to ascertain whether my sound card has a midi interface. I downloaded trial version of Mixcraft. I would like to check all aspects of the software before I take final plunge. Shall be grateful for help

Hi,

Are you trying to use that keyboard as a MIDI controller? Are you just trying to transfer .mid files from the keyboard to your computer?

Which USB port are you using on the keyboard: "USB to Device" or "USB to Host?"

Hi Greg

Thanks for posting a reply!! I am quite a novice in these things. I am using USB to Host as mentioned in the Yamaha manual. Mixcraft recognizes the MIDI input device. I just dont have any idea how to exploit this feature. I thought it is possible to manipulate the midi output by using a music software application. Is it possible to play the keyboard and simultaneously transfer the data to mixcraft in midi format via USB cable? what is midi controller and what is the difference? Am I making any sense? You would have realized from this I dont have any clue about this.

When I reconnected the instrument i could hear the keyboard sound. Bingo, I dont know how this has happened. Anyway as of now it sounds great. I will have to learn this by good old trial and error method I suppose.
